I’m just a college boy. Nothing special.
Shy, a little nerdy, not popular, unless you count my best friend Darren and a jock that’s decided he’s into me — when no one’s looking of course. And a couple of older men who I can’t seem to say no to.
I live in a small town. Like, really small. Middle of nowhere. Not a bad place, but it’s small.
We’ve a downtown, couple of diners, a bowling alley, a movie theater, a couple of bars… you know what I’m talking about. We’re just big enough to have one college, that’s it.
I’m thinking about transferring, at some point, but for now, I’m here. Partly, it’s because I don’t feel ready to leave, and partly, it’s because I like it here.
It’s pedestrian, basic even, but it’s familiar. I know how it works. Or at least, I did. Recently, there’s been some changes. Interesting and unsettling changes.
Starting with the house next door, the DeVille Manor. For over twenty years, longer than I’ve been alive, it’s sat empty.
Now, it’s got a new owner.
Ted Wolfe.
Handsome, mysterious, twice my age, and I can’t resist him. He’s not my biggest problem, but he is my biggest secret, and I’ve got a few — more than a guy my age should have, I’m sure.
I’ve been spending time with our next door neighbor. He’s got this way about him, you know? Confident, experienced, dark, handsome, mysterious. He knows what he wants, and he’s not afraid to go after it.
I’ve been learning a lot from him. Not just about sex, but about control. I’ve been exploring sides of myself I never even knew existed. It’s been exciting, exhilarating. But it’s also been overwhelming. I’ve been feeling a bit out of control, like I’m being swept up in something bigger than me.
And then there’s the stuff going on in town. The wolf sightings started a few weeks ago. First, it was just a few reports here and there. But then, it started happening more and more.
People are saying they’ve seen wolves in the middle of town, even in the daylight. It’s got everyone on edge.
I can’t forget the disappearance. A businessman from New York. Vanished without a trace. No one knows what happened to him. No one knows if it’s connected to the wolf sightings. But it’s got everyone talking.
I’ve been trying to keep my mind off it all. I’ve been throwing myself into my studies. But it’s been hard. Every time I walk outside, every time I look out my window, I feel like I’m being watched. Like something’s out there, waiting.
I don’t know what’s going on, but the overall vibe of the town seems off. It’s got me feeling anxious, on edge. But I can’t help it. I feel like I’m losing control and it’s got me wondering if my issues are back — my “imagination” and my anxiety.
Or maybe something is going on in our small town.
The question is, what?
